How to do a 1911 Pistol functions test

How to do a 1911 Pistol functions test
Performing a 1911 functions test involves initiating the pistol’s firing mechanism and this should be done in safe conditions and making sure that no necessary hazard is around. Do not ever attempt to conduct a functions test until you have made sure that the gun in unloaded and always point it to a safe direction, away from harmful objects and people.
Step 1: Removing the Magazine and Checking the Chamber
You would have to completely remove the magazine and then lock the slide back that engages the slide stop. After this, look inside the chamber to certain that there is no live ammunition present. Use your little finger to feel inside the chamber if you have to. Although you have done a thorough check and you know that you are holding an unloaded firearm, nevertheless, point it to a safe direction when performing the next step.
Step 2: Basic Test
Holding the pistol normally in your firing hand and with the slide forward, cock the hammer with the thumb safety off and pull the trigger. The hammer should fall off effortlessly.
Step 3: Functions Test
While still holding the gun in your firing hand, leave the trigger pressed and then pull the slide back and release it. The hammer should now be fully cocked. Release the trigger now and then pull it again. After doing so, the hammer should fall out.
Step 4: Half Cock Test
Using your thumb pull the hammer back until you can hear the first audible click. At this point, the hammer should be at the half cock notch. Now grip the gun as you normally would and attempt to pull the trigger. The hammer at this point should not fall at all for any reason.
Step 5: Sear Engagement Test
Now you would have to lock the slide back and gripping the gun normally, release the slide stop allowing the slide to slam home with force. Again, the hammer should not fall for any reason. If this ever does, then it indicates that the sear engagement is too weak. You can repeat this test again if you want to be sure.
Step 6: Thumb Safety Check
Holding the gun again with your firing hand, you have to slide forward with the hammer cocked and the thumb safety ON. Now pull the trigger. Just like the previous tests, the hammer again should not fall and you shouldn’t feel any perceptible movement of the internal parts of the gun. Now release the trigger and disengage the thumb safety. At this point, the hammer again should not fall and if it does, then the thumb safety or the sear is faulty.
These are some of the standard functions test that you can carry out on your 1911 pistol to check for any faulty parts.

Customization exists in everything from cars to bedrooms to laptops and even to 1911 pistol grips. Customization defines the personality of the object that you own. Custom 1911 grips are designed using many different textures and color options so that a shooter can tailor their handgun to the way they prefer and for the purposes of what they will be using. For most shooters, customization can vary based on colors, to designs and motifs to quotes etched on the grips and even their own name. these customization exudes elegance or chivalry to fun to adventurous. It all depends on what characteristic the owner of the gun defines their designs.
Most shooters with a penchant for having a gun that is not only powerful but aesthetically pleasing as it defines the person that they are. Custom 1911 grips infuse several different additional modifications such as beveled bottoms, rounding all points for carry, ambidextrous safety cuts, inlay medallions, and laser etching to name a few. Some of the most common of customization that is normally done on 1911 grips are ambi-cuts. These cuts are done on grips that cuts the right amount of into the right grip panel so that the shooters ambidextrous thumb safety can engage and disengage. Ambi-cuts are an aftermarket safety that is installed for a left handed shooter and most ambidextrous thumb safeties will need this cut.
Having a nice set of custom 1911 grips helps you set yourself apart from the rest of the shooters. Grips are made out of several different materials ranging from wood to metal and it all depends on how your hand can comfortably fit into your hand. Both metal and wood grips give unique patterns and colors though in different temperatures. Grips are made using hand crafted techniques as well as factory made methods though the hand crafted options are a lot more popular since numerous hours are spent by skilled craftsman in cutting, shaping, fitting, sanding and finishing each set of grips making each unique and never mass produced.
The customization depends on your tastes. Some prefer intricate carvings on their 1911 grips while some prefer unique motifs on them. For those that prefer carvings, wood is a better choice as it enables the crafter to really carve deep etchings from flower and animal motifs to emblems and even your name or a favourite quote. Metal also allows etching to be made but metal grips normally have designs on them and this is mostly in color such as fire spikes and other rock and grunge influenced motifs. If you have your personal prerequisites for your pistol grips, you can always pay a visit to a store that specializes in grip customization. You have to sit down with the artist and come up with ways of designing your very own unique custom grip.
No one special grip can define a certain personality as the owner of the gun needs to put his or her own definition of why they like this particular design. Not only is it pretty to look at, custom 1911 grips are also a great conversation piece as you can explain to your fellow shooters why you chose this specific design.
